Information Technology and Business Accounting Diploma

Objective

The objective of this program is to train students in two complementary disciplines, accounting and information technology. Graduates will gain an understanding of fundamental accounting concepts such as business transactions, financial statements, business law, the accounting cycle and business information systems. An emphasis is placed on how businesses use accounting information to make financial decisions to improve the bottom line. Additionally, graduates will be able to perform routine maintenance of computer hardware and software systems. Upon graduation, students will receive a Diploma in Information Technology and Business Accounting.

Graduates of this program will qualify for entry-level employment as accountants at small to medium sized companies where a high valuation is placed on individuals capable of performing multiple job functions.

Length of Program

The program takes one and one-half academic years consisting of three semesters, each including two 8-week terms. The minimum time to complete the program is 12 months (48 weeks, including breaks). Students must complete a minimum of 41.5 credit hours. The complete program consists of approximately 735 hours, which is comprised of 510 hours of theory and 225 hours of laboratory.

Requirements

The requirements to enter into this program are, at a minimum, a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate and a passing grade of 70% on the entrance examination.
