Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering Graduate, 2011
Right after high school I joined the Marine Corps and spent over five years on active duty traveling the world. When my contract ended, I decided to get back into the civilian world and get a college degree.
I chose Missouri Tech because my brother, who is a MoTech graduate and now an instructor, highly recommended it to me. I started within a month of coming back to Saint Louis and haven’t looked back since. Missouri Tech is a great place for anyone who is looking for a career in the IT field and not just another job. MoTech has a very flexible schedule that allowed me to complete my Software Engineering Bachelors and Network Administration Associates degrees while also having a full time job. A year into my studies, before I even finished a degree, MoTech helped me get a job as a field technician for an Internet Service Provider to get my foot in the door in the IT field.
Because of small class size at MoTech, I was always able to get additional help from instructors whenever I needed it. All instructors at Motech seem to truly enjoy teaching and always wanted their students to not just pass a test but to actually learn and succeed. Combination of lecture and hands on activities meant that you don’t just memorize the material but actually learn it.
Several months before I finished my degrees the company I was working for went out of business, and I was laid off. Because of the skills and confidence I learned at MoTech, I was able to find a job as a software developer within a month of being laid off even in a bad economy.
