Fundamentals of Manufacturing Process

  • Course Code: EEE233
  • Semester Hours: 3.0
  • Prerequisite Courses: None
  • Description

This course describes the flow of information in manufacturing from shop floor to top floor. It describes also how work flows in manufacturing and how various methods are used to manage and improve manufacturing processes. The course describes how information is gathered and consolidated, the effects of work-in-process on manufacturing agility, how work buffers and improves or impedes manufacturing, and how the theory of constraints can be used to manage manufacturing processes. Students will develop an understanding of how PLC programs play a role in the manufacturing infrastructure. Students will be exposed to various continuous improvement and management methods, including six sigma, kaisen, total quality management, and theory of constraints. Students will study how to identify constraints in the manufacturing process and how to manage work flow based on the constraints.
