The scores have been tallied and the results are in. Missouri Tech students are on top. The 2006 Imagine Cup competition, sponsored by Microsoft, concluded round one on Tuesday. Of the over 100,000 worldwide participants, 54 students from the USA qualified for round two in the IT category. Six of these students are from Missouri Tech. That’s 11% of the first round finalists from the United States. “It’s always gratifying to see our students succeed in competitions like the Imagine Cup. It shows that we are on the right track, educating the top IT professionals of the future.” said Paul Dodge, President of Missouri Tech. The competition consists of two rounds, finishing with the worldwide finals held in India later this year. Participants compete in six categories including software design, IT, short film, algorithm, programming, and interface design. The IT invitational challenges students to demonstrate proficiency in the science of networks, databases, and servers, as well as the areas of analysis and decision making in IT environments.

The six students who qualified for round two from Missouri Tech are Andrew Black from St. Charles-MO, Trevor Sullivan from Fairdealing-MO, Donald Cummings from Florissant-MO, Joshua Rodriguez from Wentzville-MO, John Milan from St. Louis-MO, and Adam Oppelt from St. Louis-MO.

We congratulate these six students and their instructor Bharat Kandel for their great accomplishment and wish them success in the second round. For more information on the Imagine Cup competition go to http://www.imaginecup.com/.

About Missouri Tech

In the early 1930's, a mysterious new field of study called "radio" emerged. Professor Charles Schwartz of Washington University in St. Louis seized the day and founded Missouri Technical School to teach enterprising students about this exciting new technology. Since that time the school has enjoyed great success teaching all of the latest technologies - television in the 1950's, electronics in the 1970's, computers in the 1980's. Today, Missouri Tech offers twelve different programs in the fields of Electronics, Networking, and Computer Science. Enjoying prominence in St. Louis as one of the premier career colleges, Missouri Tech offers more than the typical college experience. The administration and staff are committed to providing a "hand's on" learning approach, which not only reinforces, but also brings to life the classroom lecture and textbook study. An exciting laboratory environment, full of interactive simulations, is offered to students both for classroom and extracurricular projects. With this "real world" experience that students are provided, they are prepared to enter the workforce more quickly. At Missouri Tech you will gain the skills necessary to begin a rewarding career in today's fastest growing occupations.
